Gritty residue usually means poor water circulation or the machine is re-depositing particles.
Fast wins
- Filter: Pull the lower filter and fine screen, rinse thoroughly. If the screen is slimy or clogged, water can’t flow.
- Spray arms: Pop them off and flush. Toothpick out any clogged jets—pay attention to the end cap nozzles.
- Rinse aid: Fill it. It improves sheeting and drying, reducing spots and grit.
- Loading: Keep tall items from blocking the middle/top arms. Bowls angled so water drains, not pooling.
Detergent matters
- Use fresh detergent (powders and pods degrade). If water is hard, pick a pod with a built-in softener or add a booster.
Run a cleaning cycle
- With the machine empty, run hot with a dishwasher cleaner or a cup of white vinegar in a dishwasher-safe bowl on the top rack.
If problems persist
- Check the inlet screen (where the hose connects) for sand or scale.
- If arms don’t spin freely or you hear the pump cavitating, the wash pump could be weak/clogged.
- Standing water after cycles? Inspect the drain path: air gap, high loop, garbage disposal knockout, and drain hose kinks.
Keep filters clean monthly, use rinse aid, and don’t over-load—the machine will do the rest.
